A Silver ‘Swami’ Tea Set by P. Orr and Sons, Madras (Chennai), circa 1900.
Comprising teapot, sugar bowl with tongs, and cream jug, each with straight sided tapered body decorated with repousse relief scenes, the teapot with faceted spout, the sides depicting religious processions with men carrying images of deities, riding animals and walking with flags and musical instruments, the jug and bowl each with a series of avatars of Vishnu in arched columnar shrines, the handles mounted with snake whisperers and finials depicting Shiva on an elephant, the bases of each piece stamped P.ORR & SONS, MADRAS, and engraved inventory numbers 32413, total weight: 1260g
