Bombay Presidency, Copper Pattern for gold and silver coinage, 1828, by Robert Gordon, 2nd Battalion Bombay Artillery, (transferred to the Mint for duty as a die sinker), plain edge, design prepared at the Bombay mint but was not approved for circulation. Star & Garter design, with the garter inscribed Bombay, 1828 written in centre. (Pr. 336). FDC. Extremely Rare. It is very suggestive that the star and garter is an adaptation of some military badge or insignia of the Bombay Artillery.Provenance: Ex Robert Climpson Collection.Ex Spink Auction #28 Lot 603, 1989
