Lot No. 111
Shah Alam I Bahadur (AD 1707-1712), Silver, Rupee, 11.3 g, Akbarnagar Mint, RY 2 (KM# 347.2). Very Fine+, Scarce. This is a classic example of how intelligent people can earn money from fluctuations in weights of a coin. Coins of Akbarnagar of Shah Alam I are known from the weight range of 11.0 to 11.6 g. The than user of the coin took advantage and scrapped a heavy Rupee of say 11.6 g, from its edges on rev and earned around 0.3 g of silver. This can be observed from the scrap marks on rev, particularly clockwise from VII to V o’clock. Interesting!
Estimate: ₹1,000 - ₹1,200
